Promoting Hinduism |
|
|
Hinduism has a great deal to
offer to the West. Its inherent pluralistic teachings offer the best
resolution to the question of how people of different religions can co-exist
peacefully in a multi-faith society. Its contemporary interpretation of
spirituality makes religious teachings relevant and exciting for the modern
youth. The family values promoted in Hinduism offers the crucial cohesive
force needed in modern society. The
reconciliation between the truth claims of a science oriented worldview and a
religiously oriented worldview is essential in this century. Vivekananda
centre invokes the findings at the cutting edge of modern sciences to bring
about this reconciliation. |

We co-ordinate many classes
throughout the UK teaching Hinduism at GCSE and Advanced levels and are the
most prominent body in the UK involved in this work. We provide resources
such as revision notes; teachers guide notes, and also help with arranging
school trips to temples and monasteries. Our textbook Hinduism for Schools covers
the syllabus material for GCSE in Hinduism, as well as portions of the
Philosophy of Religion Module at Advanced level. Please email
us to order or to get further
details. The book costs £12 + postage and packing: it will be dispatched by

The results of Advanced level Hinduism for the year 2006 were announced in August. Twelve of our candidates have achieved 100 percent marks in Hinduism Modules at A/S or A2 levels. Advanced level exams are essay based so to gain 100 percent marks is a major achivement by our candidates. |

Portrayal of Hinduism |
|
|
We help with assemblies on Hinduism in many
schools. We are happy to participate in discussions and debates on themes
like religion and rationality, religion and science or religious pluralism
for sixth form students. We help teach Hinduism as part of a PGCE training programme at many universities and
teacher training centres. We
find that Hinduism presented through the teachings of Swami Vivekananda is
well received by youngsters from all faiths and no-faith backgrounds. These
teachings generate a great deal of interest in broader ideas of spirituality.
We work closely with many academic bodies both locally and nationally. We are
one of the key advisors on Hinduism to the Department of Education, the
Qualification and Curriculum Authority, the Religious Education Council of
England and |

We are the Hindu contributors to
the World Congress of Faiths, The London Interfaith Centre, as well as some
of the other local interfaith groups. We are the Hindu representatives at
some of the local Standing Committees for Religious Education (SACRE). We
often contribute a Hindu point of view on religious programmes
on the BBC as well as on other Independent Channels. |
